EBC trek Day 07 - Acclimatization day at Dingboche (4,412m/14,471ft)

Day 07 (03.11.2017) - Acclimatization day at Dingboche (4,412m/14,471ft).

On this day we had a good rest before the last leg of the journey to EBC. As for acclimatization we walked up the hill overlooking the Chhukung Valley on the right and Pheriche Valley on the left, to a height of 4,650m which took us about 2 hours before walking back to our Yak Lodge for a good night rest.

Towards the east is the Imjatse Valley, although the trek is gradual, however we could feel the thin air as the altitude gains slowly going towards Chhukung. Here we had breath-taking view of the snow-capped peaks and glaciers. The temperature was minus 10 Celsius in the evening and we experienced some snowing in the late afternoon.

An early morning view of Dingboche.

Getting ready for breakfast at Yak Lodge.

The temperature is really cold in the morning at minus 10 Celsius even indoors, outside could be minus 17.

L-R: Randy Ngatimin, Simon Loh, Abdul Rashid, Chhiring Lakpa Sherpa, Alan Koh, Ong Teik Hong and Ching Neng Bin. According to our guide, the owner of this Yak Lodge Dingboche Mr Chhiring Lakpa Sherpa had summited Mount Everest 5 times. Shaking hands with him... was a mistake... that guy has an iron grip, lol.

Looking good: Ching Neng Bin and Ong Teik Hong.

Very serious looking Mr Rashid.

Very deep contemplation by Mr Alan Koh.

07.00am - French toast for breakfast at Yak Lodge Dingboche... surprisingly very good.

Very nice pancake with honey.

The temperature over the night was below 0 degrees Celsius... The whole bucket is now frozen water... Yes, that's the tap for the sink...

Bare bones toilet...

We thought we saw an unicorn...

Yak early morning working out in Dingboche.

Can't remember what this is for.. a warning system for earthquake or avalanche.

Ching Neng Bin is still looking good.

Looking down towards our lodge and its neighboring buildings in the small town of Dingboche.

Balancing of these stones are for good luck I guess.

Looking to the northeast across the valleys and peaks of Nepal’s Himalayan mountains.

Ama Dablam main peak is 6,812 metres, the lower western peak is 6,170 metres.

Scorching sun on Ama Dablam's peak.

Paranomic view of Dingboche and Ama Dablam.

Making our way up on the Pheriche Valley.

The itinerary states that we are hiking towards Chukhung at 4730m... But we are actually just hiking up the mountain beside Dingboche...

Making our way up on the Pheriche Valley.

It's a long way up...

Dingboche has lots of these terrace field like segments.

You shoot me... I shoot you... We're a happy family.

A group shot for the album.

Breathless at 4600m.

Time to head down... and it's a long way down.

They dry the yak dung and use them for fuel.

Drying misc stuff on the rocks.

Drying clothes on the rocks seem to be the norm.

Local kid helping out with the chores... shitty chores.

Stopped by at a local cafe for coffee.

Best quote of the day...

11.25am - Arrived back at the Yak Lodge for the afternoon rest.

Tomato soup for lunch... still no appetite.

This guy got a UV light to kill bacteria in his water bottle... As for us LifeStraw 2-stage filtration is still a better choice.

Rara noodle soup with egg for dinner... could not finish this... seriously no appetite.
