Phra That Ruang Rong, Si Saket is known as a temple of fun.

Day 15 (30.11.2015) Si Sa Ket to Buri Ram by train (148km)

On the morning of the 15th day, we visited Phrathat Ruang Rong, Prasat Sa Kamphaeng Noi and Prasat Sa Kamphaeng Yai to the north of Si Sa Ket by taxi.

In the afternoon at 1.30pm we took the train to Buri Ram arriving at 4.20pm. Buri Ram is known as City of Stone Sanctuaries and volcanic mountains. We stayed at Kasoin Place. We had good dinner at Tee Pak2 restaurant located opposite Thanachart Bank, was strongly recommended by local.

This Phra That Ruang Rong is located 8km northwest outside Si Saket.


Phra That Ruang Rong main building and its 49 meters high stupa is covered with paintings of tourist attractions of Si Saket province. From the top you have a panoramic view of the surroundings

Phra That Ruang Rong central feature is a 6-storey structure that gets increasingly narrow as you step upwards to a relic-enshrining spire on the rooftop, where you can take in views of the surrounding rice paddy.


Phra That Ruang Rong 1st floor displays painted series of murals, including a few showing minions of Yama, lord of death, prodding and torching the karmically challenged in a Buddhist hell realm.


Phra That Ruang Rong museum occupies the first and second floors.


Phra That Ruang Rong 3rd floor is an image hall; a meditation room occupies the fourth floor. Relics of the lord Buddha are housed on the top floor, which also serves as a beautiful scenic viewpoint.

Phra That Ruang Rong has a pavilion with a large Buddha lying flat on his back and I think it was the only one we can recall seeing in Thailand.

The Khmer ruins at Prasat Sa Kamphaeng Noi. It is thought that the structure was erected around the 10th Century during the reign of King Suriyaworaman, one of the great Khmer rulers. It was originally a shrine dedicated to Shiva.

Prasat Wat Sa Kamphaeng Noi is the largest and best-preserved Khmer temple complex in Si Sa Ket. It’s main structure features three stupas on the same base made of brick and sandstone.

Prasat Sa Kamphaeng Noi - The stupa was previously decorated with a Varun God (a rain god) stone lintel, sitting on a throne above three swans.


To the right of Khmer ruins, there is a platform with the imposing statue of a monk, Luang Phor Krueng in mediation.

When Prasat Sa Kamphaeng Noi temple was built in the 11th century, it was at first used for religious purposes. 200 years later, under the reign of King Chaya Varaman VII, it was revised, and Bayon architectural details were added.

Prasat Sa Kamphaeng Yai located in Uthumphon Phisai 24km from Sisaket, is a mixture between a ruined Baphuon style Khmer temple dating from the 11th century, the largest and most comprehensive in the Province.
